Indian Hill Blvd Remains Closed After Claremont MTA Bus Accident

Indian Hill Blvd Remains Closed After Claremont MTA Bus Accident – An MTA bus accidentally crashed on Friday just after close of business as it turned south on Indian Hill from eastbound Foothill Boulevard. The bus crashed directly into an older electric pole, causing the power to go out in the area. The crash left the pole sliced in half, hanging over the street with wires still attached. The bus stopped just short of crashing into the adjacent office building, landing on the sidewalk.

The Police Department in Claremont CA closed Indian Hill at Foothill, redirecting traffic around the accident scene. The bus accident sent the driver to the hospital, who suffered personal injuries from the bus crash. There were several passengers on board who were not taken by ambulance. Extent of passenger injuries are still unknown.

Sunday morning, the intersection still remains closed, as the power company struggles to repair the power outage, which left many people without power since Friday night. Los Angeles Fire Department first responders evaluated the bus passengers at the scene of the accident.  Traffic accident investigators from the Claremont Police Department learned that the driver of the bus, who was at fault in the accident, was a trainee learning how to drive the large passenger carrier.  The instructor was on the bus supervising the trainee.

It appears that the driver of the bus overshot the turn, hit the curb, over corrected the turn, and crashed into the pole, shearing it off which left it hanging with lines dangling over the street.
