Fatal Crashes Cause Shutdown of 15 Freeway Sunday Morning
Early Sunday Morning Fatal Accidents Caused 15 Freeway to Shut Down Partially Reopening at 8:00AM
Fatal Crashes Cause Shutdown of 15 Freeway Sunday Morning – Two fatal crashes on the Southern California Roadways early Sunday morning shut down the 15 Freeway southbound and the State Route 60 westbound. Both freeways have been partially reopened as of 8:00 a.m. Sunday, October 16, 2016.
All lanes of the southbound 15 freeway were shut down at Cleghorn Road on the Cajon Pass due to a fatal car accident that occurred at 2:30 a.m. In that crash, a big rig truck smashed into a vehicle that was stalled on the freeway, causing the fatal crash to disburse debris, including spilled oil, onto the road. The driver of the car was killed upon impact and pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident. The California Highway Patrol shut down all southbound lanes leading down to the Rancho Cucamonga area. Two lanes were reopened shortly after 5:00 a.m.
Just a while earlier, at 2:00 a.m., a multi-vehicle crash on the 60 freeway in Montebello just east of Paramount Boulevard caused the CHP to close all westbound lanes until about 2:45 a.m. which they decided to open just one lave. By 4:00 a.m., all lanes were open for travel. That crash involved a sedan, a black Ford Expedition, and another vehicle which is believed to be a truck. Debris was also scatted about the roadway, which was the cause of the Sig-Alert. The Montebello Fire Department was dispatched to the scene of the freeway collision, but, there were no reported injuries. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
