Childrens Dental Group Anaheim Again Shut Down For Bacteria Infestation
Children's Dental Group Anaheim Forced to Shut Down Once Again For Bacteria Infested Water That Ruined The Lives of Hundreds of Children in Orange County
Childrens Dental Group Anaheim Again Shut Down For Bacteria Infestation – Children's Dental Group in Anaheim, California was shut down for the second time yesterday after the Orange County Department of Health tested the newly installed water system inside the clinic and discovered bacteria. Again. Lab tests found bacteria in the new internal water system, which replaced the former water system that caused an earlier outbreak of mycobacterium abscessus infections in many children.
“This action was necessary in order to determine the actual source of the Mycobacterium since it has reappeared,” said Dr. Eric Handler, the OC county public health officer. “We are working with the Centers for Disease Control and the Dental Board of California to determine what conditions are necessary to lift the order.”
Mycobacterium abscessus infections are resistant to conventional antibiotic treatments and usually require surgery or intravenous antibiotics, and a PICC line is implanted for infusions. All children who have been infected should be hospitalized for initial evaluation and treatment, OC health officials said.
The bacteria is found in water, dust and soil. It is known to contaminate medical tools. The infection leads to the bones and tissue. Lawsuits have been filed on behalf of the victim children have had surgery to carefully extract the infected teeth, gum, and sometimes jawbone. Hundreds of children who received pulpotomies at the Lincoln Avenue facility between March and September are at risk. The facility was forced to stop performing the “baby root canal” procedures on Sept. 6, 2016.

The California Department of Public Health, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Dental Board of California are all involved and working with the healthcare agency to investigate the serious infection cases. “We have shut them down through a health officer order,” said Handler.
The Anaheim children's dental clinic was shut down in September, but re-opened a few weeks ago. CDG told new patients that it was safe to receive treatment, including the questionable pulpotomy procedures, and that “we use NASA water now, it's safe.” Since they re-opened, the clinic has performed an unknown number of pulpotomies on children using the bacteria filled water. These newly treated children have been exposed to the dangerous bacteria.
